First half goals from Chris Iwelumo and Richard Garcia helped Colchester United extend their unbeaten run in the Coca-Cola Championship to four games, against Queens Park Rangers.
The U's won 2-1 at Layer Road but were once again forced to hold on at the end, after a Wayne Brown own goal gave the visitors hope.
Iwelumo gave Colchester the perfect start, firing in after Brown's initial effort had been blocked.
It was soon 2-0 thanks to Garcia's emphatic close-range volley and at that stage, Colchester were in charge.
However, Rangers improved after the break and when Brown could only help Marc Nygaard's lob into his own net, it gave the west London side something to play for.
But the U's held on, for their third victory in four games.
