Colchester United face a trip to Preston North End - relegated from the Championship last season - on the first day of the new npower League One campaign.

The U's will make the long trip to Deepdale on Saturday, August 6.

John Ward's men then play two home games in quick succession.

On Saturday, August 13 they entertain Wycombe Wanderers - ironically, the same side who they face in the first round of the Carling Cup.

Charlton are next up at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on August 16.

And Colchester's tough opening month of the season continues with a trip to Huddersfield on August 20 and a home game against Oldham on August 27.

The U's are at home to newly-promoted Stevenage Borough on Boxing Day.

They are at home to Hartlepool on Easter Saturday and then go to Bury on Easter Monday.

A trip to Notts County awaits on the last day of the League One season - May 5.
