Colchester United won their first FA Cup home match for nearly five years after seeing off Bradford City in a barnstorming tie.

The U's won 4-3, with David Mooney scoring twice in the first round tie this afternoon.

Colchester took the lead when Andrew Bond polished off Mooney's low pass after five minutes.

But Bradford equalised two minutes later through James Hanson, who finished well from Louis Moult's assist.

Colchester regained their lead soon after through Mooney, who netted superbly from a difficult angle from Kayode Odejayi's pass.

But Bradford were back on level terms again just after the half hour mark through David Syers, who headed in Luke O'Brien's deep free-kick.

The U's started the second half brightly though and went 3-2 up through Brian Wilson, who scored from a free-kick for the second successive game.

And Mooney scored from the spot to make it 4-2, after Matt Heath had been fouled by Luke Oliver in the area.

Hanson headed in Tom Adeyemi's pass late on to ensure a nervy finish but Colchester held on to progress to the second round.
