Roy Keane has admitted he may be interested in signing former Manchester United team-mate Nicky Butt.
Ipswich Town boss Keane saw Butt in action for Championship champions Newcastle United at the weekend when the two sides played out a 2-2 draw.
Butt, 35, is leaving the Magpies at the end of the season after a six-year spell and has suggested he may retire and move into coaching.
On high wages at Newcastle, Butt would be out of Town’s price bracket, unless he was to set his sights lower and decide he wanted to see out his career under the management of his former midfield partner.
When asked about his possible interest in Butt, Keane said: “We’ll see – we couldn’t afford him."
