“Safety concerns” have prompted Colchester United to release extra tickets for Millwall fans ahead of the forthcoming derby.

Robbie Cowling, chairman of the club, has always tried to avoid giving more visiting teams a greater allocation than necessary at home matches, to prevent giving them an advantage.

However, in a statement on the U’s website Cowling revealed that seats in E1 to E3 have now been made available to Millwall fans for Monday’s clash.

He said: “Following strong advice relating to the game against Millwall, from both the police and the Football Licensing Authority, we have taken on board their recommendations.
