And the midfielder, who wore the captain’s armband in the second half, felt his Ipswich Town side let down their 3,000 fans at St Mary’s.
Roy Keane’s men lost Saturday’s fourth-round tie 2-1 after Pablo Counago netted their late consolation, following strikes from Wayne Thomas and Michail Antonio.
Afterwards Leadbitter said: “I wanted a cup run and it was a big chance to make progress in the competition, so to lose was a massive setback.
“On the day we just weren’t good enough."
