Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd has confirmed that he is keen to bring in a new central midfielder on loan.

The U's boss was close to signing Cardiff City's Solomon Taiwo on loan, before the Bluebirds decided against the move following a spate of midfield injuries.

Boothroyd told the Gazette: "I wanted to bring another central midfield player in as back up.

"Where we are at the minute, with the number of games we have coming up, we will need a strong squad and central midfield is an area that we need to boost in terms of numbers.

"A deal for Solomon might be resurrected.

"But we will not rush into anything and every potential loan player has a parent club and we have to respect that club's wishes."
