Solomon Taiwo's loan move from Cardiff City to Colchester United has been put on hold.
The former Dagenham and Redbridge midfielder was set to join up with the U's on a temporary basis.
However, a hamstring injury suffered by Gavin Rae in the Bluebirds' 1-1 FA Cup third round draw at Bristol City last night has left manager Dave Jones short of midfield options.
Taiwo replaced Rae in the tie just before half-time and is now needed by Cardiff, putting his loan move to Colchester on hold.
