Roy Keane believes his side are still capable of making the play-offs.

The Ipswich Town boss was reflecting on yesterday’s hard-earned 1-1 draw at high-flying Leicester City.

The Blues are 19th in the table but have hauled themselves out of the bottom three, after a dismal run in August and September.

When quizzed about the possibility of promotion, Keane said: “You've got to believe.

“I’m a dreamer and the beauty of this division is that sixth place can be open to eight, nine or ten teams.

“But having said that, you’ve got to win matches to get there and we haven’t done enough of that.

“I still think we can have a good season, whatever that might mean.

“But it’s victories we need.

“These draws won’t get us up the table too quickly.

“You can never be written off but what’s held us back, and what’s continuing to hold us back, is that we’re not scoring enough goals.

“Defensively, we look more solid but we’re not scoring enough and the onus is always on the strikers.

“That’s something we have to constantly look at and work on.

“The one player who looked like he was on a decent run a few weeks ago was Steady (Jon Stead).

“Now he’s lying on a beach in Dubai somewhere (due to being in the middle of a four-game suspension).”

Keane had mixed feelings on his side’s draw at the Walkers Stadium “It was probably a fair result but I’m not sure if it was a good point,” he said.

“We had some good chances but then Arran Lee-Barrett pulled off the best save of the game (from Matty Fryatt).

“I don’t think it was a classic and we can certainly do better, in terms of possession.

“But if you come to Leicester and there’s an element of disappointment in only drawing then I suppose that’s progress.

“We started well, the same as last week.

“We’re not doing anything different, in terms of our preparation or training, but we’ve started one or two games well recently.

“After that, though, I was disappointed we didn’t build on it.

“We could keep the ball better and our passing was well below our best.

“We know we can play a lot better, but as disappointed as I was with our performance – especially in possession – there’s a decent feel to the group.

“There’s a good spirit and we’ll have to keep battling away, because of the position we’re in.”

Keane confirmed that new goalkeeper Brian Murphy injured his ankle ligaments during the warm-up.

More will be known on the seriousness of the injury today or tomorrow but Keane said: “It looks like our goalkeeping troubles continue.

“He sat on the bench but there’s no way he would have been able to go on.

“We’d have had to put an outfield player in goal.

“I’ve had ankle ligament injuries myself and they can be pretty sore, so he could be out for a number of weeks.”
