David Wright has an extra incentive to shine in the second half of the season.

The Ipswich Town defender is playing for his future, with his contract due to expire next summer.

Wright is desperate to help his struggling side climb their way up the Championship table.

But on a personal note, he is also gunning for a new deal to extend his stay at Portman Road.

“I want to spend many more years here,” he told the Gazette.

“I really enjoy playing for the club and my family are very settled in the area.

“Not knowing what the future holds can play on your mind and be a bit scary.

“It can be unsettling and there’s more than just football to consider, because if things don’t go to plan I might have to uproot my family and move to a different part of the country.

“That’s the worst-case scenario but all I can do is play well, work hard and stay in the team. Hopefully that’ll bring its rewards.”

Town are back in Championship action tomorrow and have a tricky home match with surprise package Blackpool.

The Lancashire side are sixth in the table – 13 points above Town.

“(Blackpool boss) Ian Holloway is doing an incredible job with a very tight-knit group,” said Wright.

“However, we know that if we win we could move out of the bottom three and that would be a big psychological boost.”

Meanwhile, midfielder David Norris got back to match action in a couple of practice matches in training on Wednesday.

Norris has been sidelined with a knee ligament injury since the opening-day defeat to Coventry City.

He played two 20-minute training games and boss Roy Keane said: “We’re very pleased with David’s progress.

“He’s shown a great attitude all through his recovery process and it will be a real bonus to have him back.
