Ipswich Town notched their first away win of the season this afternoon when they beat Cardiff City 2-1.

Peter Whittingham volleyed the high-flying hosts into a first-half lead but Roy Keane's men hit back after the break through Jon Walters and Jon Stead.

It was only their second win of the campaign and they have moved up one place in the table to third from bottom.

Afterwards Keane said: "The character was there for everyone to see.

“If I thought my players weren't up for the fight I'd be losing sleep.

“But I work with them every day and I know what they're about.

“The last few weeks have been difficult and people have been quick to criticise, but the players have stuck together and that's impressed me.”

Town goalkeeper Richard Wright had to go off with a knee injury midway through the first half and be replaced by Arran Lee-Barrett.

Meanwhile, Ipswich have been drawn away to Blackpool in the third round of the FA Cup.
