Experienced midfielder Kem Izzet feels a higher intensity in matches is the prime reason for Colchester United’s upturn in form.
The in-form U’s have lost just one of their last eight matches in Coca-Cola League One.
The last time Colchester embarked on a six-match unbeaten league run was in April, 2007, in the Coca-Cola Championship.
But they can equal that achievement if they avoid defeat against Cheltenham Town on Saturday.
Izzet featured in every game for the U’s in both of those runs.
The 28-year-old believes a change in approach under manager Paul Lambert has helped bring a new-found consistency.
He told the Gazette: “We’re working a lot harder in games.
“No disrespect to the previous manager or coaching staff, but before, we stood off teams a bit too much and gave them a bit too much respect.
“But that’s not happening now.
“If you want to move up the league, like we do, it’s vital to have consistency.
“We are well aware that that is what is needed.”
