Dragon Martial Arts School held their fourth quarterly grading for 2008.
It was a special one this time as instructor Mark Franklin was awarded his fifth degree black belt.
Franklin has been training with Dragon for 25 years and is a pivotal member of the club.
The fifth degree black is an honorable grade but he has had to wait a minimum of five years since his previous grade and show commitment and dedication to his own training and the club.
Franklin is the first student of chief instructor Keith Dwan to have attained this level.
On the lower grades, 35 students were examined over the course of the day with a 100 per cent pass rate.
The highest senior score of the day went to Matt Thomson, who was grading for his yellow belt. Although he is only on his first grade, he shows great talent and promise for the future
