New loan signing Gary Borrowdale has set his sights on making a big impact at Colchester United.

And he wants to help boost caretaker boss Kit Symons’ chances of securing the job on a permanent basis.

The 23-year-old left-back joined the U’s last week from Coventry City on a one-month deal.

He is set to make his home bow for the club tonight against Leicester City.

And having worked with Symons at Crystal Palace, Borrowdale revealed the caretaker boss played a major part in persuading him to join the U’s.

Borrowdale told the Gazette: “Kit being the caretaker manager was one of the biggest factors in me agreeing to come down to Colchester.

“I know what he does and I know the way he likes his side to play, so that was a big factor.

“I’ve come to Colchester to play games and that’s my priority – to play in every game.

“But that’s the manager’s decision and if I’m not playing well, he won’t play me. It’s down to me to try and keep performing.”
