COLCHESTER-BORN Elkan Baggott is set to face his home-town team this season after joining League Two side Gillingham on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old defender, who attended St Benedict's Catholic College, will spend the 2022/23 campaign with the Gills after joining them on loan from Ipswich Town.

Baggott penned a new three-year deal at Town last month, keeping him at Portman Road until 2025.

Baggott told the Gillingham website: "I'm very happy to be here, I want to improve myself and the objective for me, and us collectively, is to finish as high up in League 2 as possible.

"It's a really good vibe, everyone is happy. Friday was a good session and I'm now looking forward to the game tomorrow.

"I'm not afraid to make a tackle, I try my best."

Baggott made his Ipswich debut in October 2020 and followed that up with two league appearances in the final month of last season.

He is a full Indonesian international and has played ten times for his country, scoring twice.

Baggott was part of the Indonesia team has qualified for next summer's Asian Cup.
