COLCHESTER United are playing in front of the live television cameras tonight.

The U's are hoping to shine in front of an audience when their home clash with Forest Green Rovers is screened live on Sky Sports.

Colchester's matches are not regularly screened on live TV but they have had their fair share of success in front of the cameras, over recent years.

The Gazette looks back on five live television games where the U's have put in a good showing.

Gazette:

AFC SUDBURY 0 COLCHESTER UNITED 4

FA Cup first round

November 5, 2021

COLCHESTER swept aside their non-league neighbours AFC Sudbury, in front of the BBC2 cameras.

Brendan Wiredu and Freddie Sears both netted before half-time, to put the U's in control.

And further goals from loanees Sylv Jasper and debutant Shawn McCoulsky wrapped up victory for Hayden Mullins' side.

Gazette:

COLCHESTER UNITED 1 EXETER CITY 0

League Two play-off semi-final first leg

June 18, 2020

COHEN Bramall's fine free-kick gave Colchester a precious lead at half-time in their two-legged League Two play-off semi-final against Exeter City, screened live on Sky Sports.

Bramall scored in the 81st minute in a game that was played behind-closed-doors, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Colchester were beaten 3-1 in their second leg at St James Park, as the Grecians progressed to the final.

Gazette:

COLCHESTER UNITED 1 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 4

FA Cup fourth round

January 30, 2016

COLCHESTER took on Spurs' star-studded side in front of a near capacity crowd at the JobServe Community Stadium.

The BT Sport cameras were in attendance, as Nacer Chadli (2), Eric Dier and Tom Carroll netted for the Premier League side.

A Ben Davies 80th-minute own goal gave Kevin Keen's side a consolation goal, as they bowed out of the FA Cup at the fourth round stage.

Gazette:

COLCHESTER UNITED 1 PRESTON NORTH END 0

League One

May 3, 2015

A DRAMATIC late goal from George Moncur helped Colchester United stay in League One by the skin of their teeth against promotion-chasing Preston North End.

Moncur's 82nd-minute strike gave Colchester victory, helping them clamber out of the relegation zone.

Colchester knew that they needed to not only beat Preston - who had gone 18 matches unbeaten and knew a win would secure them automatic promotion to the Championship - but also hope three other results went their way.

Tony Humes' side produced a superb performance in front of the Sky Sports cameras but for a while, it looked like their season would end in disappointment after Chris Porter missed a penalty.

But with eight minutes to go, George Moncur popped up to score a dramatic winner for the U's and keep them up in the most dramatic of circumstances, sending the majority of the 8,413 crowd into raptures.

Gazette:

COLCHESTER UNITED 2 SOUTHEND UNITED 0

League One

February 8, 2010

THE Essex derby between Colchester and Southend in front of the live Sky Sports cameras will probably be remembered as the 'Adam Barrett' game.

Anthony Wordsworth scored twice as Colchester on a treacherous JobServe Community Stadium pitch.

Skipper Barrett was left embarrassed when in his attempts to clear a weak Wordsworth strike, his foot stuck in the sand close to the goal and the ball dribbled over the line.

Wordsworth added to his tally from close range after half-time after Southend had failed to clear a corner, as the U's claimed a derby win.
