WE did it, we actually did it.

It's only taken until mid-October but the U’s have finally not only won a league game at home, but also scored from open play, against a high-flying Harrogate side sitting second before the weekend's round of fixtures.

How nice it was to see the run by Wiredu. Picking the ball up deep in our half, before charging up field taking on their defence and slotting the pass to Jasper who made no mistake and coolly hammered the ball into the back of the net, to ensure the three points.

While it is a massive positive that we have broken the spell that seems to be lingering over the JSC Stadium, the result did paper over what was up until the final 20 minutes or so another lack-sure display and one that if our luck had not held, could have been rather different.

They hit the underside of the bar and at times in the first half, looked like that could score whenever they went forward.

Something needs to change to prevent this riding our luck and really taking the game to the opponents, especially at home. How do we change that?

Well, number one on my list would be please can the players actually shoot and try these half chances and test the keeper?

Who knows, a defection or the keeper could spill the ball may result in a goal or a chance on the follow up.

Secondly, the formation and style we finished the game with worked - it was more effective going forward with the options that were presented. Why not play this over the next few games?

It has worked, produced the win, plus the opposition will not be as prepared for it as we tend to play a certain way and their analysis will look to combat that, suddenly mixing it up will put them on the back foot and cause them problems.

At the end of the day, if it does not work then we can always switch it back, but the last part of the game Saturday gives hope it will.

After all, one shot on target as the home side is something that we can not entertain for very long.

On the subject of entertainment, what do we need to do to have a bit of pre-match atmosphere?

The ground seems soulless and it isn’t really fair on the away fans who arrive early and can’t even get a pint and something to eat before going into the ground and just stand around waiting for the turnstiles to open.

I know home fans who used to get there early, have a bit of a social and watch the lunchtime kick-off, before heading in.

This created not only a better matchday experience but also this carried on into the ground and everyone was pumped up for the warm-up and kick-off.

Now it’s more like a cinema, where everyone quietly takes their seats and waits for the kick-off.

All that's missing is a 'quiet please' announcement, that is, if the public address system worked. It seems one thing after another with the matchday experience.

But at least things on then pitch are showing signs of going in the right direction.

With the next two games against teams we should be looking to beat, let's hope there is plenty more to cheer us up over the coming weeks. Up the U’s.
