FORMER Colchester United loanee Josh Doherty has found a new club after signing a one-year deal with National League club Barnet.

The left-back has linked up with the Bees who are now managed by former Liverpool and Australia attacker Harry Kewell.

Doherty played under Kewell at Crawley, who released the left-back earlier this summer following the expiry of his contract.

The 25-year-old, who spent three months on loan at the U's at the end of last season, was released by the League Two side in May.

Doherty told the Barnet website: "I am delighted to be here, I am sure it's going to be a tough pre-season, they are always hard but knowing the gaffer, it'll be a good one.

"I want to win, I have a winning mentality and I want to win something, that is something I have always wanted to do that in my career and I hope to do that here.

"I wouldn't have joined the Club if there wasn't the ambition to challenge at the top end of the league and that has to be our aim.

"From the first day we start training that has to be the focus and the mindset, so I'm looking forward to getting started."

Doherty, who joined Colchester on loan on deadline day on February 1, made five league appearances during his spell at the JobServe Community Stadium, four of which were starts.

The former Watford youngster had made 18 appearances for Crawley, in the first part of the 2020-21 season.

Doherty has been at Crawley for nearly four seasons after becoming one of Kewell’s first signings in September, 2017.
