WAYNE Brown has called on his Colchester United side to seize their ‘big moments’ when they travel to play Salford City tonight.

The U’s are on the road for a third successive game and will be looking for vital points to pull away from the League Two relegation zone.

It will be a tough task for the U’s, who currently have the worst away record in League Two up against a play-off chasing Salford team who boast the best home record in the division and are fresh from their Papa John’s Trophy triumph at Wembley, last weekend.

But Colchester created plenty of chances in their 0-0 draw at Grimsby Town last Saturday and interim boss Brown says it is important they take their opportunities, when the come along.

Brown said: “They are big moments in games and you’ve got to try and get your goals, when you’re on top and when you’re creating them.

“It wasn’t to be at Grimsby but the most important thing is that when that spell does stop, which inevitably it probably well because you can’t maintain that pressure and efforts on a consistent basis, there are times when you have to dig in and I thought we did that as a group.

“Any point you get on the road, wherever you are in the league table, at any stage of the season is always a good point.

“Add that to the fact that Grimsby are fighting for their lives and desperate for the win to keep their hopes alive, it was important to be solid, keep the clean sheet whilst trying to win the game of football.

“We did want the three points but if we can’t do that, let’s make sure we take on and let’s not lose the game of football.

“That’s the sort of mentality and message that the lads have got to get used to.”

Colchester boss Brown must decide whether or not to stick with the same starting line-up that drew at Grimsby or freshen things up for a third away game in eight days.

The U’s are likely to be without goalkeeper Dean Gerken and midfielder Tom Lapslie again, due to injury.
