COLCHESTER United have got the all clear after they received no positive tests following a round of mandatory Covid-19 testing.

The U's first-team squad and staff all tested negative, following the EFL's mandatory round of testing at football clubs across the country.

All 40 tests, which took place at the JobServe Community Stadium, came back as negative.

It is good news for the U's, following the postponement of their League Two game against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday following Covid-19 cases in both camps.

U's chairman Robbie Cowling told the club's website: "Following last week's incident with a positive test, I am pleased that the COVID-19 protocols we have in place at the club have ensured that all these tests came back negative and no other players were infected."

Colchester will continue with their season despite the National Lockdown, with elite sport given the green light to continue.

The U's next game in League Two is due to be at Salford City, on Saturday.

Performance Director Jon De Souza added: "Getting negative results across the whole group is fantastic because primarily the health and safety of the players and staff is of paramount importance to us.

"Secondly, it was important that we as a club are following the regulations as closely as possible because it's imperative that football is a safe place now that we are continuing through this next lockdown.

"There is light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccines being rolled out, but we have to take this positive news forward and ensure that we have similar success with any new EFL and Governmental testing procedures and protocols that will no doubt be put in place."
