COLCHESTER United boss Steve Ball admits he does not have any fear in changing a winning side.

The U’s have won their last two games in all competitions scoring eight goals and conceding just two in return.

However, Ball has not ruled out making changes to a winning side.

He said: “It is great to be winning, to have choices to make regarding selection, It is just what every manager wants.

“So, it is great for me, it is great for that extra edge in training.

“Obviously after the past two performances and wins it is going to be hard to get in.

“But I have always said I am not going to be scared to keep a winning side if there are some tactical changes to be made.”

Colchester could be handed a triple injury boost as they prepare to take on Mansfield tonight (7pm).

As Ball gave a positive update on Tom Lapslie, Callum Harriott and Ben Stevenson.

He said: Tom is of the character he had a little setback and he came back last week.

“And he is now back training and working really hard.

“It would be nice for him with regards to his brother playing as well to get that happening, but we will wait and see.”

“It is also positive regarding Callum, as he joined in again today (Wednesday) and again he is chomping and the bit and wanting to be involved.

“He has seen the team is doing well and wants to be part of that, so again there will be some tough calls to make.

He added: “Ben is also fine. He has been training all week, so he is good to go.”

Colchester kick off the action in League as they travel to the One Call Stadium to take on Mansfield tonight in the Friday night football.

A win could see the U’s move into third place in the table and Ball know how important an advantage it is to play before their other rivals.

He said: “It does and I think even the result last night (Tuesday) with Port Vale losing gave us a bit of a buzz this morning (Wednesday).

“I know it is very early days and you cannot get too excited.

“But it is just a result that keeps us in there, with a game in hand and a chance to go third.

“I said last week we had a chance to get into the playoff places by beating Orient which we did, it could happen again by going third tonight, then let’s take our chance.”
