Manchester United remain interested in Watford's Ismaila Sarr as a possible alternative to Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

The Watford Observer reported on United's initial interest earlier this month as they began to explore other avenues to the England international.

With the Red Devils reportedly finding it difficult to strike a deal for Sancho, they have maintained dialogue with Watford regarding Sarr, but a deal is thought to be some way off at the moment.

The Hornets are in an advantageous position regarding the 22-year-old, who has four years left on his current deal and has previously stated that he is happy to stay and push for promotion this season.

Speaking to Senegalese publication Sans Limite ahead of the current season, he said: "I still have years of contract with Watford, another 4 years. If Watford wants me to stay, I'll play in the Championship; my departure also depends on them.

"I really don't know what to say. We are going to play in the Championship since there is no transfer yet."

The domestic transfer window runs until October 16 so there is still almost three weeks for United to make a move should they want to, but a fee close to £50million is believed to be the Hornets' price tag.

Watford are also understood to not be interested in a loan deal.

Aston Villa and Paris Saint Germain are also reportedly interested, however United are thought to currently hold the most serious interest.
