COLCHESTER United now know the dates of this summer's transfer window.

The EFL has today confirmed the opening and closing dates for the 2020 window.

Subject to formal ratification, the transfer window will open fully on Monday, July 27.

The window for international registrations closes at 11pm on Monday, October 5.

There is an agreement in place with the Premier League for an extended two-week domestic only window which will close at 5pm on Friday, October 16.

Any player registered before the completion of the 2019/20 season will not be eligible to play for their new club until season 2020/21 commences.

This is applicable to clubs involved in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs.

Colchester are unlikely to be prolific in this summer's transfer window, given the financial restrictions that Covid-19 pandemic has brought for clubs.

U's chairman Robbie Cowling said yesterday that the club will be implementing a new plan that will see the first team even more tightly aligned to their youth set-up, something that ultimately led to the departure of head coach John McGreal.

Meanwhile, the EFL are talking to clubs about when the start of the new season will be.

Two dates have been proposed - August 29 or September 12, with the season finishing on May 8 2021.
