CARLISLE United manager Chris Beech was left frustrated following his side’s 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Colchester United.

The hosts were left comfortably beaten by John McGreal’s side, after Kwame Poku’s brace and Luke Norris’s header gave the U’s all three points at Brunton Park.

It was a disappointing day for Carlisle, who had gone into the game on the back of a run of one defeat in nine matches, in League Two.

Beech told the Carlisle United website: “You’re always disappointed to lose – of course you are.

“We got beat 3-0 at home and my voice has gone from shouting so much.

“We obviously wanted to win the game and we didn’t.

“Colchester have got a strong squad.

“You could see how when they score or when they make a sub; the ref was a little bit naïve today in terms of dealing with their player putting his shinpad in his other sock, taking it out, putting back in his other one when he’s meant to be coming off the pitch, when a player’s injured.

“Harry Pell’s very experienced and he’s 20 yards further down the line to take a throw-in and it’s obvious he’s going to be asked to come back and it’s all done in slow motion.

“Those things don’t make you lose but they’re part of the frustration of trying to get back at an opponent that are very good at drawing out the life of the game and that’s what they did.”

Poku gave Colchester a 41st-minute lead at Brunton Park, before Norris doubled their advantage a few minutes later.

Poku then scored a third for the U’s early in the second half, leaving Carlisle with no way back as they fell to their second 3-0 defeat at the hands of Colchester, this season.

“We competed but it makes it look worse than it is when a game drifts away from you,” said Beech.

“The goals look soft and I’ll have a look at them again.

“You don’t want to concede goals like that.

“The first one is right in the corner and the second one, Colls (Adam Collin) held his hands up at half-time to say ‘I should have come and got that corner’.

“I think it was important to possibly come in at 1-0 rather than 2-0.

“For the third goal, the spin on the ball saw it ricochet over Aaron Hayden’s leg and it’s outside the post.

“It’s a slow one but it’s spun and spun and crept into the far corner.

“We didn’t have that with our ricochets and what happened to them, the keeper saved.

“I think it’s three wins, five draws and two losses and it’s quite a long time to be competitive in what we’re trying to achieve.

“You want to make sure that you’re having an impact on the opponents’ goal and we didn’t get that.”
