COLCHESTER United head coach John McGreal has vowed to follow Jurgen Klopp's lead when it comes to the Coronavirus.

The outbreak is dominating headlines and the football world is not exempt, with Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce banning his players from shaking hands.

West Ham have reportedly taken similar measures, encouraging their players to use fist pumps instead and issuing them with bottles of hand gel which they have been told to carry at all times.

McGreal says and he and U's staff will be "guided by professionals", in terms of reacting to the virus and containing the spread of germs.

"I read a big piece with (Liverpool manager) Jurgen Klopp, about Coronavirus," the U's chief told the Gazette.

"He said 'don't ask me, ask the experts' (when asked for his thoughts after the Reds' FA Cup defeat by Chelsea on Tuesday).

"He said to let the professionals sort it out because they're the people who know what they're doing.

"There's talk of handshakes and different things at this moment in time but I'm no expert and I'm going to follow Jurgen Klopp's advice.

"In other words, leave it to those who know what they're talking about.

"We'll be going on their advice and taking any information on board."

McGreal, who takes his side to Carlisle United on Saturday, said there are NHS signs up at the club's Florence Park training ground about washing hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds.
