COLCHESTER United produced a lacklustre display to lose 3-0 at Port Vale, on Saturday afternoon.

The U's were second best against their in-form hosts, on a day to forget for John McGreal's team at Vale Park.

Colchester are seventh in League Two after the defeat, ahead of their trip to Salford City on Saturday.

DEAN GERKEN 5

U’s keeper made a couple of good saves but was at fault for Vale’s opener

RYAN JACKSON 5

Will probably not want to see Vale’s opener again on a bad day for the U’s

TOM EASTMAN 5

A rare off day for the normally reliable U’s centre-back who was not at his best

LUKE PROSSER 5

U’s skipper was part of a defence that shipped three goals and were beaten

COHEN BRAMALL 5

Looked a danger with his set-pieces but also part of a back four that shipped three goals

HARRY PELL 6

Was unlucky to see a first-half effort cleared off the line and kept battling. Booked

BRANDON COMLEY 5

Could not really make a mark on the game before being withdrawn on the hour

COURTNEY SENIOR 5

Showed one or two bright moments on return to side before coming off shortly after half-time

BEN STEVENSON 6

U’s man of the match. Tried hard to get the U’s going with little reward. Booked

FRANK NOUBLE 5

Did not have his usual impact on the game on a frustrating day for the U’s

THEO ROBINSON 5

Had an acrobatic effort deflect away for a corner but otherwise had few chances

SUBSTITUTES

KWAME POKU (for Senior, 53) 5

Tried to be positive but with little reward in the final 35 minutes or so

LUKE NORRIS (for Comley, 61) 6

Gave the Vale defence something new to think about and had a couple of off-target efforts

LUKE GAMBIN (for Pell, 73)
