COLCHESTER United played out a 2-2 draw at Scunthorpe United, on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Luke Norris and Luke Prosser salvaged a draw for the U's, after Abo Eisa and Kevin van Veen netted for the Iron at Glanford Park.

It helped extend Colchester's unbeaten league run to six matches and set them up nicely for their trip to play Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, on Wednesday night.

Smells like team spirit

COLCHESTER United showed great spirit and belief to come back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Scunthorpe United.

With little more than half an hour to go, they were 2-0 down at Glanford Park and pretty much looked down and out.

But two goals in four minutes from Luke Norris and Luke Prosser got them back on level terms.

After that, in any team was going to win the game it was Colchester.

Looking good

IT is now six league games unbeaten for John McGreal and his Colchester United side.

The U’s have taken 12 points from a possible 18 and have not tasted defeat since losing to Morecambe, in mid-October.

Indeed, it has almost been as long since Colchester last lost away from home and they are unbeaten in their last five games, on their travels.

They sit four points off the League Two automatic promotion places, with games in hand on some of the teams above them in the table.

Senior’s wait

COURTNEY Senior has been a regular name in Colchester United’s starting line-up, this season.

So it will be a real shame on a personal note for the attacker if he were to be ruled out of one of the biggest games in the club’s history.

Senior was withdrawn at half-time during the Scunthorpe draw due to a quad injury and now faces a race to be fit for the U’s big Carabao Cup tie at Manchester United, on Wednesday.

Tough choices

BEN Stevenson was the latest player to suffer the misfortune of being left out of a Colchester United squad.

The former Wolves youngster – along with Jevani Brown and Brendan Wiredu – did not make the U’s final 18 for their game at Scunthorpe, once again reflecting the depth of the squad John McGreal has at his disposal, this season.

The Colchester boss admits it is ‘heartbreaking’ at times to make such decisions – but also knows that having such strong selection options will only enhance his side’s chances of achieving success, this season.

United await

AFTER weeks of having to put it to the back of their minds, Colchester United’s players can now finally focus on the prospect of taking on Manchester United, at Old Trafford.

The Carabao Cup quarter-final is now on the horizon for the U’s and for some of their players, it will be the biggest game of their career to date.

John McGreal’s side have enjoyed a wonderful run in this season’s EFL Cup – wouldn’t it be amazing if they could create history and reach the semi-finals.

Whatever happens though, Colchester’s players and staff deserve to enjoy every minute of Wednesday night.
