HAVING won his first two international caps over the course of the last week, Lamar Johnson will be back between the sticks when Canvey Island visit Witham Town tomorrow.

Johnson featured for St Lucia during the international break.

And, following his return to south Essex, Canvey boss Mark Bentley is pleased to have the goalkeeper available for the Isthmian North trip to Witham.

“Having Lamar back is good,” said Bentley.

“It was great for him to win his first international caps over the course of the last week and it’s fantastic for the club as well because it shows you are still able to earn a call-up at this level of non-league football.

“Lamar has been fantastic all season and he deserved his call-up.

“I saw that he kept a clean sheet on his debut and I don’t think they keep many clean sheets, so that’s a great achievement.

“It would have been a great feeling for him to make his international debut while in non-league football and I’m hoping that he will build on a strong start to the campaign.”

And Bentley hopes the Gulls will continue to climb the standings.

“It’s a game we are looking to win because the league is very tight at the moment and three points could send us racing up the table,” added Bentley.

“We want to win as many games as we can before Christmas.

“I’m hoping that the pitch will be in a better condition than it was last year.

“Having done really well at Great Wakering Rovers last week, we need to build on that.”
