COLCHESTER United head coach John McGreal says his players are revitalised after their fixture break.

The U's return to action at Cheltenham Town this weekend, ten days after their last competitive match against Ipswich Town in the Leasing.com Trophy.

It has already been a gruelling campaign for Colchester, who have played 25 games in all competitions in the current campaign.

But they are now preparing to get back on the pitch at fellow promotion hopefuls Cheltenham on Saturday - and boss McGreal says his squad are looking sharp.

McGreal said: “It’s been a good week’s training and I think the break came at the right time for us.

“A few of the boys nursing injuries have been able to recover and it’s been a good week.

“We had our 25th game, ten days ago.

“That’s a lot of games already and I certainly haven’t had that since I’ve been here.

“The cup games have been invaluable for us, to keep the momentum going.

“There were a few boys after that Ipswich game who weren’t able to train and a couple of boys who we changed on that Tuesday were part of the reason, as well and also to get minutes, too."

Luke Gambin and Callum Harriott both trained with the rest of the Colchester squad today, after returning from their international duty with Malta and Guyana respectively.

But midfielder Brandon Comley will report back for duty tomorrow, having been given an additional day to recover after playing for Montserrat earlier this week.

McGreal said: “We’re still waiting on Coms, who we’ve given an extra day today (Thursday).

“We’re hoping that he’ll be back fresh but again we’ve got the squad to adapt to it.

“Me and Steve (Ball) will get together and have a good chat about it.

“We’ve spoken to Coms – he’s fine within himself and he’s really buoyant.

“He’s coming back from winning games as well so we’ll see what Friday brings."
