UNBEATEN professional boxer Dan Azeez will have a shot at an English title when he fights at the Brentwood Centre next month.

The 30-year-old will battle Newcastle’s Lawrence Osueke for the English Light Heavyweight crown on the undercard of the #GoldenContract light heavyweight quarter-finals on December 14.

Azeez who fought for the Colchester-based Essex University Boxing Club as an amateur, has made a big impact since stepping into the professional ranks.

His record now reads 10-0, with seven knockouts, after picking up a huge stoppage win over Charlie Duffield for the Southern Area title back in July and then notching his tenth professional win recently.

He scored a victory with a fifth-round stoppage against Edgars Sniedze when #MTKFightNight headed to York Hall as he prepared for his huge English title opportunity next month.

The former Essex University man had originally been scheduled to come up against former English light-heavyweight champion Dec Spelman, but promoters MTK Global have now announced that Azeez will now face Osueke.

His opponent, is another fighter with an unbeaten record, having had nine wins and one draw in his ten professional bouts.

But as he prepares to try and build on his impressive Southern Area title stoppage win over Duffield, Azeez is raring to go.

He said: “I’m delighted with this news. The aim is always just to keep climbing the ladder and this is just the next stop on my journey.

“I actually remember Lawrence from the amateur days and he was one of the top boys back then so I hold him in high regard.

“I hope to contest even bigger titles in 2020 but I’ve always said it’ll be one thing at a time so right now, all I have in my sights is Mr Osueke.”

The Azeez versus Osueke fight will also be the reserve fight for the Golden Contract tournament, which already stars Hosea Burton, Steven Ward, Liam Conroy, Serge Michel, Lenin Castillo, Bob Ajisafe and Ricards Bolotniks.
