Colchester advanced into the knockout stages of the EFL Trophy with a 1-0 win over neighbours Ipswich Town, on Tuesday night.

Ryan Clampin's spectacular strike earned John McGreal's side victory and ensured they topped the group.

Colchester had earlier in the competition won 3-2 at Gillingham and drawn 1-1 with Spurs under-21s, who won the resultant penalty shoot-out.

Former Colchester forward Clinton Morrison, along with ex-England midfielder Sue Smith, were be on hand to draw the teams out.

A total of 32 clubs are involved in round two of the competition, with the draw split into Northern and Southern sections.

As winners of Southern Group A, Colchester guaranteed themselves a home tie against a runner-up of a group from the same region.

The Southern and Northern draws were split into two separate draws.

Colchester are next in action when they travel to play Cheltenham Town in League Two, next Saturday.
