STANWAY ROVERS manager Danny Slatter was delighted with his team’s performance after their 4-0 thrashing of Hadleigh United at The Hawthorns.

The sides met in a Thurlow Nunn League premier division clash on Friday evening.

Remi Garrett opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a wonder strike from the edge of the Hadleigh box.

Jamie Shaw and Milo Grimes then grabbed a goal each to complete a dominant first-half display.

Tom Holdstock added the fourth and final goal early in the second period to put his side third in the table, two points behind second-placed Norwich United.

“You can see there’s great togetherness in the squad," said Slatter.

"I’m chuffed for the boys as they've been playing ever so well of late."

Goalscorer Shaw was substituted with a nasty head injury after a 50/50 challenge with Hadleigh keeper Nick Punter, leading to his controversial goal.

Many spectators believed the assistant referee got the decision wrong and the ball had not crossed the line.

“Unfortunately, Jamie had to go to hospital," added Slatter.

"He’s OK but he had to have stitches.

“He took his goal well and put his body on the line for the team.

"He’s been great since he returned to the club in the summer.”

Rovers are back in action on Tuesday night, in the Challenge Cup.

They have a home tie against May and Baker.

This is followed by a return to the league with a derby clash against neighbours Brantham Athletic on Saturday.

Elsewhere on Friday, HOLLAND FC pipped HALSTEAD TOWN 1-0 in a first division south clash at Eastcliff.

Goalkeeper Nick Wilson spectacularly scored the only goal of the game in the first few seconds.

LITTLE OAKLEY lost 4-1 at Frenford, with their goal coming from Jamie Beecham.
