BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent suffered a 2-0 defeat against Enfield Town in their first match since manager Tom Rothery’s departure.

The former R’s boss stepped down in the aftermath of Saturday’s 3-2 reverse at home to Lewes.

Assistant Pip Boyland took charge for Tuesday’s BetVictor Isthmian League premier division contest at the Taydal Stadium, assisted by John Albon and Alan Wright.

After a goalless first half, Regent were looking to give themselves a fillip with a timely and much-needed victory.

However, it was the visitors who grabbed two second-half goals to return home with maximum points.

Ryan Blackman got the first, five minutes after the break, and Lewis Taaffe added the second on 75.

After their fourth straight defeat, Brightlingsea are now 19th in the table – one place and two points above the relegation zone - heading into this weekend's tricky trip to fourth-placed Folkestone Invicta.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Heybridge Swifts ran out 3-2 winners in their north division contest at home to Soham Town Rangers.

Alex Teniola, Evans Kouassi and Harrison Chatting scored their goals at the Aspen Waite Arena.

Wivenhoe Town marched into the next round of the First Division Knockout Cup after a 4-2 victory at home to Felixstowe and Walton United Reserves.

Ross James scored twice and he was joined on the scoresheet by CJ Cabulo and Sam Mead.

In the next round, the Dragons face neighbours Brightlingsea Regent Reserves.
