FOREST Green Rovers manager Mark Cooper felt his side could have scored more goals after seeing off Colchester United 1-0.

An own goal by U's skipper Luke Prosser settled the League Two encounter, at the New Lawn.

The win lifted Forest Green up to third in the table, after they recorded a fourth clean sheet in their last six matches in all competitions.

Cooper said: "Another clean sheet but we probably had to do more defending than we should have done.

"We needed to get the second goal and in my opinion we could have scored three or four goals with good chances.

"I thought we played particularly well in the first half, against a good team.

"That’s five clean sheets in the league, so that takes some doing and the boys have defended really well.

"The goal was horrible for the defender.

"We worked all week on our forwards running forward towards the goal and their defenders are in turmoil and if their defender doesn’t put it in Kyle Taylor does.

"We’re statistically the most fouled team in England now and we must have gone further ahead with the foul count today but when you’re a good team that happens.

Celtic loanee Jack Aitchinson, who has been drafted in by Forest Green to replace Reece Brown after he left for Championship side Huddersfield Town, performed well against Colchester.

Cooper added: "Jack is a different type of player to Reece Brown who's difficult to replace.

"Jack is more of a forward than a number ten, where Brownie was an out-and-out number ten.

"But we’ve got four players who are good players who can play the two number ten roles without weakening the team in terms of Jack, Kyle Taylor, Dayle Grubb and Junior Mondal."
