COLCHESTER United boss John McGreal on Walsall draw

COLCHESTER United head coach John McGreal felt his side's 0-0 draw with Walsall was a fair result after his side were held at home.

The U's extended their unbeaten run to six matches but had to settle for a point at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Luke Norris, Ryan Jackson and Ryan Clampin all went close but Walsall proved a tough nut to crack for the home side.

McGreal said: “It was a frustrating day at the office.

“Let’s not forget where Walsall have come from – they’ve been in a higher league than us for a number of years.

“They haven’t had the start that they would have liked and they still have some quality players.

“They’ve killed the games at times and passed it when they had to.

“I just felt it was those energy levels at times today and I’m not making any excuses.

“I just thought we were a little bit slow with our build-up which then made the game really slow.

“The fans have tried to get behind us to get us going to be fair to them and I think the referee helps with that, with some of the decisions he was making.

“Theo (Robinson) and Jevani (Brown) came on and got in some good areas.

“It was a nearly day – it’s a point.

“We’ll wipe its face – that’s eight out of our last four and you move on.

"We've been really clinical of late, including the other night (against Gillingham).

"We've been getting into some good areas but we lacked that clinical edge today whether it was maybe the wrong choice or a weak effort at goal.

"But we'll improve on it, we'll get back on the training ground and we'll go again.

"We're disappointed we didn't get the win but on reflection, I think a draw was a fair result."
