FRANK Nouble says Colchester United have set their sights on having a super September after chalking up back-to-back wins in League Two.

The U’s ended a gruelling opening month of the campaign on a high, thanks to a 1-0 win at Oldham Athletic.

Nouble bagged Colchester’s winner at Boundary Park, to ensure they followed up their fine Carabao Cup triumph at Crystal Palace with another positive result.

The striker admits there were ‘a lot of arguments and disagreements’ following their opening two games - but says the U’s have now developed a ‘team bond’.

Nouble said: “It’s always good to win games.

“We’ve won back to back in the league now and we’re hoping for a better September than August but we ended the month quite well.

“The first couple of games there were a lot of arguments and disagreements and whatnot.

“But we’re working towards games like Oldham where we don’t play so well but still get the win - that’s because we’ve built a team bond.

“Winning always helps and when you win, you definitely getting closer to those team-mates.

“We’ve had a month together now – there are no more excuses and we just need to crack on and get where we want to be.

“Everyone was confident anyway but when you’re not scoring or winning games, it’s a bit difficult.

“You hear everything a bit more then but now everything’s gone more quiet and everyone’s buzzing about the result – we just need to keep it going now.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had eight games in a month (like in August).

“It’s tough but because you just want to win games, you forget about it.

“Hopefully we can utilise the squad and we have a brilliant squad, so whoever comes in now will do well I’m sure.

“Whoever’s playing has got to try and keep the shirt.”

Nouble’s superb finish just before the break helped Colchester claim victory at Oldham.

It helped them follow up their superb Carabao Cup triumph at Crystal Palace with another win.

“It was a great result, after the positive result we had at Palace,” said former West Ham youngster Nouble.

“We didn’t want that to be the only thing that we were buzzing about, this week.

“We really want to get a result at Oldham, more than a performance and we got it.

“The goal was what we needed just before half-time and I think me and (Luke) Norris have built a good relationship, so far.

“I thought the whole back four played well particularly (Luke) Prosser and (Tom) Eastman and there was some brilliant last-ditch defending, too.

“We’re playing to a shape; it might look like we’re letting them have the ball a bit but they need to be afraid of our counter attack.

“We’re playing a bit of cat and mouse but it’s working well at the moment.

“We got a lot of clean sheets last year so we want to build from that.”
