COLCHESTER United have snapped up Southend United striker Theo Robinson on loan until January.

The U's have strengthened their attacking options before the transfer window closes, next Monday.

Robinson will go straight into Colchester's squad for their trip to play Oldham Athletic, this weekend.

The 30-year-old striker has been with the Shrimpers since January 2017 transfer window but spent the second half of last season on loan at Swindon Town where he bagged seven goals in 16 league appearances.

Robinson, who is a Jamaica international, has also had spells at Doncaster, Derby and Millwall.

He joins young Bristol City striker Freddie Hinds in joining Colchester on loan this week.

Hinds has been training with the under-23 squad at Florence Park this week and boss John McGreal says the 20-year-old - who is also on loan until January - is likely to start with the younger age group first.

McGreal said: "(Head of Performance) Jon De Souza and recruitment have brought Freddie in.
“I think it’s more for the under-23s just to get himself into that environment and then work his way through.

"Freddie had a loan at Cheltenham and it’ll be a case of him playing games and working through and seeing where he’s at.

"He’ll start with the under-23s and then progress through."
