IT'S been another year of success and achievement for our sporting stars and talented teams.

Now Gazette readers have the chance to put their thinking caps on and make nominations for this year’s Sport Colchester Sports Personality Awards.

The borough’s biggest achievers will be rewarded at a glittering ceremony at the JobServe Community Stadium, on November 25.

Sprint star Charlie Dobson had cause for a double celebration after last year's event - being crowned Male Sports Personality of the Year before landing the prestigious Premier Award.

Fellow athlete Rebecca Jeggo was named Female Sports Personality while other winners on the night included figure skating siblings Edward and Elliot Appleby, swimmers Charlotte Norman and Sophie Freeman and respected athletics coach Steve Garnham.

But who will follow in their footsteps in 2019?

Colchester’s most prestigious annual sporting awards were first made over 30 years ago and are now recognised as one of the best of their kind in Essex.

Now it’s time for you to get thinking and nominate who you think should be honoured in this year’s awards, which continue to recognise the tremendous achievements of the borough’s amateur sportsmen and women and target individuals who do not have participation in the sport as their primary income source.

The awards are sponsored by the Daily Gazette, meetings, accommodation, events and travel management experts Inntel and the Duley Practice, the local partner practice of St James Place Wealth Management.

The individual and team awards for under-14s, under-18s and ‘open age’ are for outstanding achievement during the calendar year at international, national or regional level.

Nominations are open to any individual or team representing any sporting organisation in the Colchester and District Council area.

The Coach Of The Year Award recognises outstanding coaching assistance given to help individuals or teams achieve outstanding results.

The Bill Tucker and Eric Chapman awards are in memory of two people who gave up much of their time to develop sport in Colchester.

The fruits of their efforts are seen in the high quality of the sports clubs and individuals in the borough.

The judging panel for all the awards consists of representatives of Sport Colchester and the Daily Gazette.

The winners and those ‘highly commended’ will be notified after the judging meeting and invited to receive their award at the November 25 ceremony.

You can nominate candidates by completing the nomination form in today’s Gazette

Nominations can be received online or by post and this can also be done by going to the Gazette website or emailing sportcolchester@live.co.uk

The closing date for applications is September 30.

Sport Colchester has been in existence for half a century and is an independent, non-profit making forum for sporting organisations in the borough of Colchester.

It’s key function is the organisation of this event by a small team of volunteers and funded totally by members of the Colchester Business Community.

"We have some amazing athletes representing clubs in the borough across a wide variety of sports," said Sport Colchester chairman John Powell.

"It's always a great pleasure to see them honoured in front of a packed house at the awards ceremony.

"Across the 30 years of these awards, we've seen fantastic talent at all ages and we look forward to this year being as good as ever."
