BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent boss Tom Rothery believes Jake Turner is the complete package when it comes to being a midfielder.

Last term's multiple player-of-the-season winner has penned a new two-year contract with the Bostik League outfit.

He follows in the footsteps of skipper Matt Cripps, who has also agreed a new deal at the Taydal Stadium.

Rothery is delighted and says Turner is a "vitally important" part of his Regent jigsaw.

“JT had a great season and really showed his true capabilities," said the Regent boss.

"I’ve always been on his case about letting his personality come out in games and really showing what ability he has.

"I feel he has everything a midfielder needs.

"He can do the ugly stuff and has great technical ability in both feet.

"I feel he should control games for us and he did that last season, playing with real confidence. It was excellent to watch.

"JT is another huge asset to the club and if we are to be successful, securing him is vitally important.

"The fact he’s happy to sign a two-year deal shows we're all happy with what’s going on at the moment and another big boost as we head into a new season."

Turner's new two-year deal will keep him at the Taydal Stadium until May 2021.

He will be hoping to build on last term's success when he won the supporters' player-of-the-year award, along with the players' player and manager’s player prizes.

He has been with the club since 2012, apart from a short spell with AFC Sudbury in 2018.

News of captain Cripps' new contract was released on Monday.

He has agreed a fresh one-year deal, meaning he will spend a sixth season at Brightlingsea.
