LAWFORD Ladies are setting their sights on silverware.

The School Lane side are through to the Essex Women’s Trophy final and face Bowers and Pitsea at Aveley’s Parkside Stadium.

The sides will do battle in a 4pm kick-off on Sunday, March 24.

Bowers are second in Eastern Region Women’s League division one and Lawford, managed by Gemma Isaac, seventh.

It is their first season at that level.

The sides have already met once this season when Bowers prevailed by the slender margin of 3-2, shortly before Christmas.

Their next league meeting is on April 24.

Sheena Foley, the daughter of Colchester United legend Steve, recently inducted into the U’s Hall of Fame, plays for Lawford.

To cap what could be a special double for the village, Bryonie Barran will be playing for Billericay Town Blues against C & K Basildon in the Essex Under-16s Girls’ Cup final at 1pm (also at Aveley).

The East Bergholt High School student (pictured) started playing for Lawford when she was five and lives next to the club’s School Lane ground.

She moved on to play for Colchester United’s centre of excellence side which later became Essex RTC.

The 15-year-old centre-back was previously selected for an England national camp and, for the last two seasons, has been playing for Billericay.

She has been training with Lawford this season to get adult experience and turns 16 the day after the final, on March 25.

She will then be old enough to play adult football for her home team.
