With a number of promotion-chasing north Essex sides securing valuable victories, it doesn't make it an easy choice in handing out the Bostik League's star performance award this weekend.

The weekend started off with Friday night division north action at a foggy Scraley Road where Heybridge Swifts welcomed Witham Town and a 1-0 win that lifted them back up to second made it a good evening for the hosts.

It was 0-0 at half-time, but the sending off of Ayo Odukoya three minutes before the break meant it would be a tougher battle for Witham after the restart and so it proved, with Luke Wilson's 51st minute strike earning the win for the buoyant Swifts.

Maldon & Tiptree were another side on the rise in the promotion race and a 2-0 win at Soham Town Rangers took them back into the top three.

The Jammers had a first-half goal from Jorome Slew and once after the break by Sammie Mcleod earning them the three points.

The other north Essex side in the division north play-off places is Coggeshall Town and they also had an important victory as they strengthened their hold on fifth spot.

A Nnamdi Nwachucku brace and a George Cocklin strike saw the Seedgrowers beat Mildenhall Town 3-0 at West Street.

Impressive as the division north wins were, though, they weren't enough to earn the star performance award.

Instead, that resides in the top flight as another side pressing for promotion had a superb result at home.

It was Brightlingsea Regent and the R's got back on track after slipping up at Margate last week with a 2-0 win against Kingstonian - the side one place below them in the premier division table - at North Road.

Goals from Josh Gould and Michael Brothers brought Regent three valuable points that took them up a place to 11th in the standings, to within six points of the play-off places and also brought them the star performance award.
