COLCHESTER United head coach John McGreal is not expecting any departures on transfer deadline day.

U's fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that the club keep hold of their prized assets.

Top-scoring midfielder Sammie Szmodics has been linked with Championship and League One clubs while Frankie Kent and Kane Vincent-Young have also been catching the eye.

The deadline shuts at 11pm tonight but, as of lunchtime today, McGreal was not anticipating any exits.

“There was quite a bit of interest last week but this week it’s been relatively quiet, which is good," he said.

“We’re not expecting anything, unless something happens really late on.

“We’ve added players and are hopefully keeping our stronger ones.

“We’ll have to wait and see but (if an offer does come in) it’ll be the chairman (Robbie Cowling) and (director of football) Tony Hume’s decision.

“At the moment, though, it’s gone a bit luke warm."

Colchester have made three additions so far, re-signing Wolves midfielder Ben Stevenson on a two-and-a-half-year contract and recruiting Shrewsbury Town winger Abo Eisa.

It was also announced earlier this afternoon that the club have snapped up Callum Roberts on loan from Newcastle United.
