THE January transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

Colchester United have already had a busy week, bringing in two new signings ahead of this evening's deadline.

The U's have signed their former loanee Ben Stevenson from Wolves, on a two and a half year deal.

And they have also snapped up attacker Abo Eisa on loan from League One outfit Shrewsbury Town, until the end of the season.

Today is the final day that Colchester and every other club can sign players until the summer.

And the U's could further strengthen their squad before the window closes, with Newcastle United youngster Callum Roberts said to be on their radar.

The 21-year-old winger, who has been at the Magpies since he was eight years old, has come through the academy at St James Park.

He made his senior Newcastle debut in January 2015, appearing as a second-half substitute in their FA Cup defeat at the hands of Leicester City.

Roberts, who has spent time on loan at Gateshead and Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, grabbed his first goal for Newcastle earlier this month in their 4-2 FA Cup win against Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

Colchester will be hoping they do not lose any of their prize assets before tonight's deadline.

Leading scoring Sammie Szmodics has been linked with Championship and League One clubs, while Frankie Kent and Kane Vincent-Young have also been catching the eye.

The January transfer window officially closes at 11pm tonight.
