COLCHESTER United played out a 0-0 draw with Morecambe, on Saturday afternoon.

The U's struggled to break down a well-organised Shrimps side, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

The closest they came to scoring was when Kane Vincent-Young's effort shook a post, in the final minutes.

The Gazette's U's reporter Jon Waldron rates the players, following their disappointing goal-less draw.

RENE GILMARTIN 7

Helped his side keep an 11th clean sheet of the season; made a decent first-half stop to deny Cranston.

RYAN JACKSON 7

U’s right-back enjoyed plenty of the ball and performed competently, despite picking up a first-half knock.

FRANKIE KENT 7

Was impressive again at the back for the U’s and won plenty of aerial challenges.

LUKE PROSSER 7

U’s skipper played a big part in helping his side keep another clean sheet and was composed throughout.

KANE VINCENT-YOUNG 9

U’s man of the match. Shone at both ends of the pitch and hit the post with a fine effort.

BRANDON COMLEY 6

Midfielder was neat and tidy in possession on his first league start since September.

TOM LAPSLIE 7

Was regularly involved in the final third and battled away relentlessly in central midfield.

FRANK NOUBLE 6

Looked effective driving at the Morecambe defence but decision-making sometimes let him down.

SAMMIE SZMODICS 6

Was full of endeavour and enthusiasm once again but had few glimpses of goal throughout the 90 minutes.

BRENNAN DICKENSON 6

Got into some decent attacking positions but lacked a killer final ball when needed.

LUKE NORRIS 6

Battled hard but cut something of a frustrated figure at times before being replaced.

SUBSTITUTES

COURTNEY SENIOR (for Dickenson, 63) 6

MIKAEL MANDRON (for Norris, 73) 7

Was unlucky not to score in the final stages with an effort that whistled just past the far post.

HARRY PELL (for Comley, 73) 6

Relished being in the thick of the action after coming off the bench for the final 20 minutes or so.

SUBSTITUTES (NOT USED): Eastman, Wright, Gondoh, Barnes.
