Colchester United suffered their joint heaviest defeat under John McGreal when they thrashed 4-0 by Carlisle United.

The U's were second best at Brunton Park and after trailing 1-0 at half-time, were put to the sword by the Blues.

Colchester remain third in League Two despite the defeat and face leaders MK Dons, next weekend.

Here the Gazette's U's reporter Jonathan Waldron rates the players after their disappointing defeat.

DILLON BARNES 5

Was part of a defence that conceded four goals but made a good early save to deny Hope.

RYAN JACKSON 5

The U’s right-back was not seen in attacking areas as much as usual on a disappointing day for the U’s.

FRANKIE KENT 6

Performed well in the first half and made a last-ditch challenge to deny Devitt before limping off.

LUKE PROSSER 5

The U’s skipper failed to reach his usual high standards on his 50th league appearance. Booked.

KANE VINCENT-YOUNG 5

Had a testing afternoon like the rest of the U’s defence before being taken off on the hour.

HARRY PELL 5

Was not his usual dominant self in central midfield but was still full of endeavour.

TOM LAPSLIE 6

U’s man of the match. Did not stop battling on a very disappointing afternoon for his side.

FRANK NOUBLE 5

Was lively in the first half and enjoyed some good moments but was otherwise under par.

SAMMIE SZMODICS 5

U’s joint leading scorer was denied by Collin’s brilliant save in the first half but faded after that.

COURTNEY SENIOR 5

Showed some glimpses of his skill but not enough of it throughout the 90 minutes.

MIKAEL MANDRON 5

Missed a good chance early on but was isolated at times before being withdrawn.
