JOHN McGreal says he is looking forward to seeing his promotion-chasing Colchester United side get ‘back to business’ this weekend.

The U’s return to action for the first time since November 27 when they host bottom club Macclesfield Town at the JobServe Community Stadium tomorrow.

Colchester head into the game in third place in League Two, having taken four points from their last two matches and boss McGreal is hoping they can continue their fine home form.

He said: “It would be great to pick up where we left off.

“Our last two performances have been very good to get the four points.

“It’s nice to be back at home again – we’re mindful of the opposition and have a lot of respect for them but generally, it’s about what we do.

“The boys have performed to a really good level.

“It’s going to be tough because as you saw with Exeter, they came with a different style of play and different plan – if keepers continue to play like the Exeter keeper did, we might find it a bit tough!

“But it’s not for the lack of trying and I think the fans do appreciate the style of football we try and play and we’ve been able to get wins, which has been nice.”

Colchester host a Macclesfield side who will be managed for the first time in the league by Sol Campbell, who has taken over as their new boss.

The Silkmen are bottom but go into the game having recorded back-to-back league wins.

“We know it’s going to be tough,” said McGreal.

“Sol has gone in there and taken over but even the two games previous to that they’ve won and they beat Exeter 1-0.

“We’ve had Macclesfield watched and scouted, we’ve had reports on them and watched the videos like we would do with any other team.

“There might be a little bit (more) about it because Sol’s come in and it’s his first game in charge but we just want to get back to business, put on a good show for our fans and hopefully get the three points.”

McGreal is hopeful defensive pair Ryan Jackson and Kane Vincent-Young will both shrug off muscle injuries to play.

“We’ve got one or two training a little bit more now so it’s one where we’re continually assessing,” he added.

“The break came at the right time for us I must admit, with the likes of Ryan Jackson and Kane Vincent-Young struggling with hamstring injuries.

“They’ve both been able to come through training and they look after themselves and have recovered really well.”
