WITHAM Town manager Mark Ashford was frustrated after his team were unable to make the most of periods of dominance at Tilbury.

A 3-0 defeat left Witham still bottom of Bistike League division north, but Ashford felt his team could have got more from their trip to south Essex.

“I was disappointed with the penalty (given against us)," he said.

“I rarely moan about referees but I felt we didn’t get the rub of the green there and it was so soft.

“He could easily have given similar ones the other way, so that was very frustrating as we were in the game at that point.

“We didn’t play enough football in the first half, but we came out for the second half and dominated the game for 20 to 25 minutes.

“I think everyone who saw the game could see we were in the ascendancy, creating half chances and the keeper pulled off a couple of good saves.

“In those moments, though, you have to take your chances.

“Had we equalised, I’d have fancied us to go on and win the game of football, but we didn’t get the goal and got caught by a sucker punch on the counter attack as we tried to play football.

“Then at 2-0, with our current position where confidence tends to suffer and players start to lose their composure and shape, it became very messy.

“It’s just frustrating because, once again, there are times in every game where we dominate and play some great football, but we haven’t been able to do it from minute one through to 90."
