JAKE Hutchinson's late goal proved only a consolation as Colchester United's under-18s suffered a heavy 7-1 defeat at Queens Park Rangers, writes BRIAN WALLER.

Hutchinson struck with two minutes remaining but the U's youngsters were comprehensively beaten in their latest Professional Development League Two match, in West London.

Colchester are still searching for their first league win of the season, following their heavy defeat.

The U's enjoyed a reasonable first half and were well in the match, until they conceded a goal just before half-time when Raheem Conte scored after 44 minutes for Paul Furlong's side.

Things then took a turn for a worse after the interval for Colchester.

Bummi Babajide scored twice in four minutes either side of the hour mark to make it 3-1 and Joe Gubbins quickly added another for the hosts, soon after.
James Fahmy bagged Rangers' fifth and an own goal followed with 15 minutes to go, beforee Nathan Carlyle made it 7-1, with eight minutes to go.

Colchester's only goal came when Ollie Sims set up a chance for Hutchinson to score but it was otherwise a day to forget for the under-18s.

They are next in action when they host Watford at Florence Park, on Saturday.
