LUKE Norris believes he made the right decision to join Colchester United – despite Phil Brown wanting him to stay at Swindon Town.

The in-form striker comes up against the Robins this weekend for the first time since leaving them to join the U’s, this summer.

Swindon took up the option to extend Norris’s contract for a third year, at the end of last season.

But less than six weeks later, the 25-year-old quit the County Ground to join their League Two rivals Colchester for an undisclosed fee

Norris has hit the ground running at the JobServe Community Stadium, scoring eight times already this season – and the prolific forward insists he made the correct choice joining the promotion-chasing U’s.

Norris said: “I think it was time for a change.

“I’m really glad I made the decision because of the ambition and what we wanted to do here this year.

“I think this squad has got a really good chance of getting some success, this year.

“I had two years at Swindon and the third year was an option.

“They really ummed and ahhed about it for a lot of the time because I had a shoulder problem.

"Towards the end, I stopped playing with it - I needed it sorted, because I didn’t know where I was going to be.

“I said to them to take the option up and then I’d try and play but they never did.

“As soon as there was a bit of interest floating around, they decided to take it up.

“By the end of the season and how it finished up, I thought I was going to move on and I’m glad I did, in some respects.

“It’s gone really well – we’re high up in the league and I have eight goals in the league, so everything’s looking good so far.”

Norris’s campaign was cut short by injury last season and he only played three games under Brown, who took over as Swindon boss last March.

“We won the first, lost the second and the third game was when I hurt my shoulder, so that was it,” added the former Brentford youngster.

“But he was good around the camp and we had a good relationship.

“He didn’t want me to leave but I think people above him made that decision as well.

“They were good times there.

“We got relegated in my first year there – there was stuff going on behind the scenes which was pretty bad.

“We had a good go last year but just fell short.

“I had an injury-plagued season last year but I still managed 14 goals.

“I had an ongoing issue but that’s finally been sorted and I’m reaping the rewards from it now.

“We should have achieved a lot more last year but it wasn’t to be.

“I feel we’ve got a good chance of beating them on Saturday because they’ve been sort of hit and miss, so far.”
