COLCHESTER United striker Luke Norris has been shortlisted for the PFA Bristol Street Motors League Two Player of the Month award for September.

The in-form striker, the U's leading scorer with seven goals, is in the running for the monthly award after scoring five goals and two assists in five games for his club in September.

The 25-year-old's goals came in all shapes and sizes last month, including a 30-yard pile-driver of a free-kick in Colchester’s 3-1 triumph at Cheltenham.

Norris recently missed out on the EFL League Two player of the month award when he was pipped by Oldham Athletic forward, Sam Surridge.

Oldham Athletic duo Surridge and George Edmundson and Lincoln City pair Jason Shackell and Tom Pett have also been nominated, along with Byron Moore of Bury.

Colchester will check on the fitness of striker Frank Nouble ahead of their game against Crawley Town this weekend.

The former West Ham United youngster missed their Checkatrade Trophy win over Southend United on Tuesday night because of an ankle injury suffered in the 3-1 reverse at Stevenage, last weekend.

Nouble has started every U's game in League Two so far this season and is hoping to be fit for the visit of the Red Devils, on Saturday.

“Noubs has got a heavy ankle so he wasn’t able to perform," said U's boss John McGreal, who has confirmed that Ryan Jackson's withdrawal at half-time against Southend was for tactical reasons.

“Frank being Frank, he wanted to play but I looked at his ankle and it was best he came out."

Meanwhile, McGreal says he was pleased with Mika Mandron's all-round contribution in the midweek win over Southend.

The French striker has found his starting opportunities limited for the U's in League Two this season but played 90 minutes against Blues.

McGreal added: “Mika gets himself into little pockets and we’re able to get people running in behind.

“We’ve got good options and we felt as though we needed that performance from Mika, after the Southampton under-21 game.

“He’s had little bits but he’s working ever so hard in training.

“He ran out of gas towards the end but for the 85 minutes he played, he worked his socks off."
